What to expect during your Sleep Consultation

How long will my consultation be?

Our standard appointment length for new sleep consultations is 30 to 45 minutes. Generous timeslots are offered to allow us to elucidate a detailed understanding of your current medical issues as well as your overall health and medical background. This will include a physical examination and a review of any test results that have been undertaken before you meet us.

Will there be an opportunity for me to ask questions and discuss my options?

Yes, our longer timeslots means that you will have ample time to ask questions and for us to focus on the issues that are important to you.

Will I need to have any investigations?

Many people who present with a sleep disturbance or tiredness during the day will benefit from a sleep study to gain greater understanding of their sleep. The most common type of sleep study is performed overnight, although some specialist studies are conducted during the daytime. Our information about Sleep Studies provides more details about your options for choosing a study that matches your preferences and circumstances.

Driving safety

Driving safety, fatigue and obligations as a licence holder can be important issues for anyone who feels tired while driving or who is diagnosed with a sleep condition. This is particularly important for people who drive professionally. We can guide you through the process of making sure you are safe to drive and ensuring you have relevant supportive documentation for VicRoads or your workplace. Most people with a sleep condition, including professional drivers, are able to find effective treatment that allows them to drive safely.
