What to expect during your Respiratory Consultation

How long will my consultation be?

Our standard appointment length for new respiratory consultations is 45 minutes. Generous timeslots are offered to allow us to elucidate a detailed understanding of your current medical issues as well as your overall health and medical background. This will include a physical examination and a review of any test results, including scans, that have been undertaken before you meet us.

Will there be an opportunity for me to ask questions and discuss my options?

Yes, our longer timeslots means that you will have ample time to ask questions and for us to focus on the issues that are important to you.

Will I have lung function testing?

Most patients undergoing a respiratory consultation will require lung function testing to measure different aspects of their breathing. In most cases, we will organise this test after your initial consultation so that the tests we order are tailored to your individual needs. It also limits the chance of you undergoing an unnecessary test.

Is telehealth available?

Yes, telehealth is available if you are unable to visit us face to face. In general, we aim to conduct your initial consultation in person. If this is difficult because of where you live or transport issues, we are happy to discuss the best approach for your individual circumstances.
